Jenna moved to New York in 2009 to work for the New York Times as a technology reporter. Before that, she lived in San Francisco and worked as a waitress and fact-checker at Wired Magazine.She is originally from Virginia and studied biology and anthropology as an undergraduate at the University of Virginia. Having a background in science really helped her to see she embraced everything about information tech, infrastructure and thinking about how things work and evolve.
Initially, Jenna felt alienated from tech culture because she wasn't presented as a stereotypical “geek.”Digging into it, the more she became fascinated with the way the Internet, machines, and software shape our understanding of ourselves, the world, and each other, and she’s been doing that ever since. In 2015 Jenna received an award for being “The Best Culture Writing of 2015.”
Jenna didn't really recognize what she coveted to accomplish as a career at first. Like the most of us do when we are going through our first four years of college. But when reading her “Started from the bottom” article she started earning a living as a waitress that helped the knowledge flow of how the industry works. “I learned almost everything I needed to know to be a successful human while working in restaurants, possibly even more than I learned in college,” said Jenna.Her testimony opens my eyes and inspired me to acknowledge my dreams even if it doesn't make sense.
Nevertheless, Jenna does announce another side of her in her writing. She expanded a new project on publication Medium called "Everybody Sexts."This article speaks on the exploration of love and technology in the 21st century.“What I discovered, mainly, is that sexting — like anything else done on our phones — was mostly just meant to be fun, for fun, grown folks doing what grown folks do,” mentioned Jenna.
